I t’s not everyday you get to put together a collaboration between one of the biggest K-pop groups and a Grammy-nominated singer, but as luck would have it, that’s exactly what happened to me. Miraculously, the show – featuring Monsta X and Gallant – came together in just two weeks: we locked down a production team, played jigsaw with scheduling, searched for locations, scripted scenarios and questions, and grabbed as many varieties of snacks as we could for the Crafts table. The result? A beautifully shot reflection of eight people’s musical journeys, an exploration of the growing globality of music as seen through the eyes of artists from different regions. Within a month of its debut, the collaboration reached an 12-year all-time high on Soompi’s YouTube channel. Fans around the world chimed in with their thoughts, so much so that #WhenYouCallMyName became a trending topic on Twitter.
I just watched “When You Call My Name” and I lost count of how many times I cried. It is all so beautiful, the filmography, their words, the cover. I can’t explain with words how proud and how much love I feel towards them. – @minhyukswhales
I just watched the documentary and I’m SOBBING!!! Every word hit home. It was so heartwarming and raw and so well produced. – @emoobols
“When You Call My Name” was so so beautifully done. It allowed us to hear about both Gallant and MONSTA X’s hope and dreams for music and their success and hear about how they have influenced each other. The ebb and flow from Gallant to MX was perfectly timed and each member got a chance to talk and shine and open up to all of us. It was both the perfect length and too short. I love both monsta x and gallant so much so to see them together was ahh, such a refreshing breath. I’m going to watch it a few times lol. – m00nk1ld
A big thank you goes out to the wonderful people over at Warner Bros Records, Starship Entertainment, Lux Films, and Viki team members who fought to make this happen.
